Halloween and Kellogg EMBA students

A good question is, what does Halloween have to do with Kellogg EMBA students?

It is a fair question since we usually think of Halloween as something that children celebrate rather than adults in their 30s and 40s. This is clearly not the case with Kellogg EMBA 131 students. I was teaching my “Executive Perspectives in Leadership” class last weekend in Miami, and they invited me to their after class party. As you can see in the picture below, the EMBA 131 students were clearly having a great time. And yes, the fellow in the Ernie Banks Chicago Cubs jersey is me, which just goes to show that you are never too old to celebrate Halloween.

To be totally honest, as the father of five children, I have never stopped celebrating Halloween. When out trick-or-treating with the kids, I was usually the six-feet-tall ghost wearing a white sheet. I may have also been guilty of stealing some of my children’s candy, particularly anything with chocolate, although they could never prove it. 😉

Since our youngest son, Daniel, is now a senior in college, I thought that my Halloween celebrations may sadly be coming to an end.😱 However, since I became a grandfather for the first time three weeks ago, I realized that the second chapter of my Halloween celebrations has just started.🙏 As you can see in the picture below, my three-week-old grandson, Harrison Clark, is all decked out in his Monsters, Inc. outfit and was ready to party!

Harrison clearly appears to have his grandfather’s love of chocolate since he wasted no time immersing himself in the chocolate, even though he’s not able to enjoy it quite yet!

I did ask Harrison if he would share some of his chocolate with his grandfather, and as you can see in the following photo, he was obviously not very enthusiastic about it. 😉
