I am a very big baseball fan, but I very rarely attend football or basketball games. I must admit, however, that the Northwestern Wildcats basketball game I had the opportunity to attend last Friday evening was one of the most amazing sporting events I have ever attended.
The Northwestern Wildcats played the Purdue Boilermakers, who are ranked as the number one college basketball team in the country. The Wildcats were behind by more than 10 points during the first half of the game, and it was not obvious how they would overcome the deficit, especially given that one of the Purdue boilermaker players is 7’4” and considered one of the best college basketball players.
Nonetheless, the Wildcats rallied to tie the game in the fourth quarter! What’s more, they turned a very exciting overtime into a 92 to 88 win!!!
Here is a summary of the game from the Chicago SunTimes: Northwestern upsets No. 1 Purdue for second season in a row.
As you might imagine, the Northwestern fans went wild with excitement and stormed the court at the final buzzer. Here is a short video I took of the final few seconds:
Not only was it my first Northwestern Wildcats basketball game, it was also my six-week-old grandson Harrison‘s first game. As you can see, he was definitely properly dressed for the game and fully expected his team to dominate. Harrison enjoyed preparing for the start of the game, but he didn’t last very long before his mother concluded that it was time for him to head home for dinner and sleep. 🤣
I clearly need to attend more Northwestern basketball games… Go, Wildcats!
You two are good luck! Terrific video – what an amazing moment! Poor Purdue! What an amazing game!!
I was there when they did it last year, Purdue was also #1 in the country and then this fall when the cats won the last game at Ryan field (also against Purdue!) Those were incredible. Glad you were there. Keep going to the games, Harry and bring the little guy, too.
Harry, your best post ever! Harrison is clearly Kellogg class of 2053. Perhaps your last year of teaching?
